Gantry Deck Crane with Auxiliary Manipulator
Model 20T

Electric-driven gantry cranes are designed for cargo handling, transfer, and stowage of deck hatch covers, as well as other auxiliary operations.

The design ensures efficient handling of large-size cargo along the full length of the deck, while an auxiliary crane manipulator enables prompt handling of smaller loads. This solution ensures reliable and stable lifting operations in maritime environments.

The Model 20T gantry crane ensures reliable handling of deck hatch cover sections up to 20 t and 13.5 m in width. The auxiliary crane manipulator allows efficient handling of loads of up to 3 t, enabling their lifting onto the deck and subsequent transfer.

Configuration

Upper frame

(highlighted in blue)

The upper frame is a steel structure that serves as the primary load-bearing element of the crane. It provides mounting for the hoisting winches, sheave blocks, cable drum, and the auxiliary crane manipulator. The design ensures enhanced reliability, efficiency, and operational stability of all installed equipment.

Gantry legs

(highlighted in blue)

The gantry legs reliably carry the upper frame and transfer loads to the travel bogies. This design ensures stability and uniform load distribution, maintaining stable crane operation.

Travel bogies

(highlighted in blue)

The travel bogies enable crane movement along the rail track. The design ensures reliability through flanged drive wheels, an anti-tip locking device, and buffers. Additional safety is provided by a rail sweeper, which clears foreign objects from the rails.

Winches

(highlighted in blue)

The hoisting winches ensure safe and reliable handling of loads up to 20 t. The design, based on a welded drum and drives incorporating a gearbox, brake, and electric motor, provides precise and safe lifting. The reeving system protects the wire ropes from wear, increasing service life.

Spreader

(highlighted in blue)

The spreader ensures secure gripping and handling of loads up to 20 t with dimensions of 13.5 × 2 m. The design, featuring transverse beams and load-handling attachments, ensures stability, while the reeving system prevents load sway, enabling precise positioning.

Ladders and platforms

(highlighted in blue)

Guardrails, ladders, and platforms provide safe access for maintenance personnel, minimizing operational risks.

Auxiliary crane

(highlighted in blue)

The auxiliary crane manipulator mounted on the upper frame handles loads of up to 3 t. A boom outreach of up to 4 m and a hook travel of 16.5 m enable efficient handling of small loads both on deck and overboard.

Cable drum

(highlighted in blue)

The cable drum installed on the upper frame provides uninterrupted power supply to the crane during travel along the rail tracks. This ensures stable operation of all installed electrical equipment.

Explosion-Proof Gantry Deck Crane: A Technical Solution for Marine Environments

Imagine a research vessel operating in the Barents Sea. Waves strike the hull, and deck operations are underway: a heavy hatch cover section must be lifted and stacked with precision. Standard equipment would simply fail under such conditions. The new gantry crane developed by Izhora Hydrosystems is designed to operate where conventional solutions fall short.

When Conventional Cranes Fall Short

Handling hatch covers requires equipment capable of withstanding extreme loads and harsh environmental conditions. The section must not only be lifted, but also securely held under vessel motion and vibration, safely transferred, and accurately stowed. In addition, deck hatch operations require specialized devices for the installation and removal of hatch cover sections.

Until recently, Russian shipbuilders often procured such cranes from abroad. This resulted in longer lead times, more complex maintenance logistics, and increased operational risks.

A Technical Solution for Next-Generation Vessels

Engineers at Izhora Hydrosystems have developed an explosion-proof gantry crane fully adapted to Russian marine operating conditions. The design allows for vertical stacking of multiple hatch cover sections, features an auxiliary boom for additional lifting operations, and includes dedicated devices for hatch cover handling.

The crane is operated by a single operator from a local control station and a remote control pendant. The system features automatic engagement and release of hatch cover sections, anti-tip protection, and reliable load securing during lifting and lowering operations.

Practical Value

The Izhora Hydrosystems gantry crane is supplied with a full set of certificates issued by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and complies with all applicable maritime safety requirements. The base configuration can be customized to meet specific shipowner requirements, taking into account individual project characteristics and operating conditions.

Serial production of these cranes enables full import substitution, shortens vessel construction timelines, and reduces dependence on foreign suppliers. This increases shipbuilding localization, equips vessels with reliable equipment for operation in harsh marine environments, and strengthens the position of the Russian fleet in domestic and international markets.
